CLD RESCUES – BEAR & FIRKIN JUNE 30 AT 6PM – OTHER EVENTS TOO

Posted in Events, News on 11.06.10

June 30th, 6 pm at the Bear and Firkin in Pickering at Valley Farm & Kingston Rd! FUN, FOOD & 50/50 draw! $25 per ticket! Finger foods incl and drinks of course extra.

This is for the rescues – www.petfinder.com/shelters/ON258.html as always.

Join us please for a relaxing, fun night to talk about dogs, learn about behavour training and meet some nice dog people! Those of you who’ve adopted in the last couple months can come and meet others who’ve adopted or are dog owners too and you can learn from each other, avoid a lot of ‘common’ dog problems too.

We still have Briar Tuck since Feb and a better dog you can’t imagine! Emily is ‘Cell Dog Trained’ and perfect and we love her to pieces! Apollo is still with us 11mos now.  Sophie and Paulina, here a long time and both great dogs. Clyde or Lugnut as we call him, and Huey are HUGE at 115 & 125lb respectively.

Big dogs like these are LESS energy and time consuming than smaller or ‘regular’ breeds, they usually don’t want to sleep on your bed cuz you make it too crowded and hot and they can only sleep in one place at a time and you’d be surprised at how LITTLE SPACE THEY TAKE UP.

They are loving, good conversation stoppers or starters, Chick and Guy magnets and all around great dogs. both are 2 yrs old and Clyde is a little more energetic than Huey but nothing like a lab puppy.

What’re we funding this time?
More Heart worm meds for July, August and Sept (til the next fundraiser – Xmas In Sept – 2nd annual) and I have 6 dogs here from a lady who is in a woman’s shelter with her kids but slept in her car for three months rather than give up her dogs! Shelters don’t take them and obviously not a lot of places can take that many dogs – nor would they want to when even costs aren’t covered but with your help she can still have her dogs when her life is in order.

The dogs are 14 yr old Mike, 10 yr old Cherry, 13 yr old Buddy and Tucker, Jersey and Baily who are three Jack russells all young and having fun. She ended up with her dad’s 3 dogs when he died and her life went to crap. Her dogs are here having fun and away from the stress and margaret can focus on getting well, getting a place to live and a job without worrying about her dogs.

I need to feed them, Hw med them and two are pretty old and can use some homeopathics too.

Also we have new dogs arriving on june 28th so they all need deworming, antibiotics and god knows some one will end up sick with pneumonia from kennel koff b4 the week is over!

So please come help us and have some fun too!

Unfortunately the pub is not set up to have our dogs there so we can’t bring them.

Next event – we are looking to do a full day with John Wade this time instead of a 1/2  day www.johnwade.ca only this time you’ll have booked time with him for one on one after the group session to work on something you need fixed.
It’ll cost apprx $175 for families and $90/per person but again dogs can come. We’re looking at mid july and we will start early for coolness altho we have the outbuildings for shade and the dog’s pools are open for them too.

NOTE: we will only do the seminar by RSVP AND PMT BY CREDIT CARD. we had a few too many people not show up and these seminars are to help YOU, not cost ME money please.

We also will be carrying John Wade’s Collars he designed along with our Good Dog Collars. They work well, are great for people who want to work with their dogs and train them and also easier for people with arthrits especially to use which is really great! We have all sizes. and will have his utube instructional video on our www.SuSteiner.ca website in a couple days.

Our Good Dog Collar is for us lazy dog owners, older people, busy people who have kids in tow or strollers and tired ones who don’t feel like being pulled or pulling or jerking and are always available too.

Whatever makes walking a pleasure is GREAT FOR YOUR DOG! the BEST BREED OF DOG IS AN EXHAUSTED DOG!

Hopefully we’ll see many of you on the 30th and hear from those who want to help with the 50/50 draw.

We are STILL waiting for charity status and will keep you posted.

They do everything they can to assist the rescued dogs in finding good, solid, happy homes. Because of the dog camp boarding experience they are uniquely able to spot and fix behavior problems, emotional problems and adjustment problems as they have sources and resources to help these dogs. If you adopt they are always there to help along the way in any form they can. The ultimate goal is to place all these fantastic dogs into a forever home. A lot of these animals need to be fixed and some have medical issues that need to be corrected, so the more money we raise the more lives we can save. So please come out and hike for our most loyal companions. They deserve the best from us.

HANK’S 10TH BIRTHDAY PARTY & MICROCHIP CLINIC NOV 8

Posted in Events on 16.10.09

hank1We’re back to having Hank’d birthday parties and I can’t beleive my baby is 10 YEARS OLD!!  His Actual B-day date is Nov 11th.

This dog’s NAME was NO!HANK! DOWN!HANK! STOP HANK! for his first 3 years!! Mind Boggling.  He was a small, fat sausage in my hand at 6 weeks. This is the same dog who looked sadly just like Wyle E Coyote his first winter and his first snow drift when he tried to leap over it and splatted INTO IT like a cartoon dog.

Jessie laffed at him most of his life (geez I miss Jessie), so did i and most people who met him. When we started the camp he was 5 yrs old and suddenly had a job I had no idea he was qualified for – he kept the dogs in line and stopped fights, got dogs playing, took a pack leader roll – my baby had grown up!

He still does stoopid lab things, even at 10 and will give me his ’round eared look’ when caught and it just says w’haaaat???”

My Hankie.

Hopefully you can all join us on Nov 8 for leash free time and cake from 11am to 2pm. Instead of gifts (g_d knows this dog has everything he needs) please make donations to our vets to help with the costs of our rescues (3 had pneumonia this past summer and one ate her stitches and needed to be stapled not to mention dewroming, defleaing, parasites….If you’d like to make a donation to either vet, there is Guildwood 416-265-5000 and Orono 905-983-9010 who will happily accept a visa or M/C pmt of any amount and of course you can donate thru us (visa & M/C) or here at the party.

RESCUES: we have 30 DOGS NEEDING HOMES! Please check them out and send out the link! http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/ON258.html to everyone and anyone!

DOG FESTIVAL A HAPPY SUCCESS

Posted in Events on 30.09.09

For a first time event i was surprised to see so many people come – I was terrified there’s be no one coming and terrified it’d be too big!
It was busy enuf that people actually had to park on the road and a lot of you know how loooooong my driveway is!!
We did the adoption fair and adopted 4 dogs to PREVIOUS ADOPTORS – lord LOVE YA! – and one went to a new adopter.
There are appts for 4 other dogs this week and A LOT MORE PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT OUR DOGS NOW.
The chip clinic on Sunday went well too so one of our vets is a little happier with us financially than they were last week – THANK YOU GUILDWOOD AND DR AUDREY and her terrific STAFF!! Always there for us even when we have no money right away – if you’re in the Guildwood area – please give them some biz – they are good and caring people.
We still have some silent auction items to be picked up & paid for – everyone was contacted so if they could be taken home i can have my office back ;-)
For those who couldn’t make it, you missed Daniella’s Pupcakes – they were for humans and had either a dog on top or was topped with POOP REPLICAS MADE OF CHOCOLATE!!
If you ever have a doggie event contact us for her number to make these delicious Pupcakes ;-) ))
I am tired now, exhausted really, so will talk soon.

To The Friends of Camp LotsaDogs – reminder

Posted in Events on 16.09.09

Just a reminder that our fund raiser/Dog Festival is Saturday September 26th from 10:00 to 3:00, we realize everyone has busy lives and other commitments, and if you can’t come you can still support us.

For only $10.00 we have DNA kits and for $10.00 we have YUK YUKS tickets, which make an excellent birthday, Christmas or a little something gift.

The DNA kits will provide information about your mixed breed dog knowing the pedigree allows you to better understand traits and familial diseases of your dog.

The YUK YUKS show is October 15 @ 8:00 pm in Ajax featuring Angelo Tsarouchas. If you can’t make this show, the tickets may be used ANY Thursday night for 3months after the date, a reservation will be required.

To order your DNA kit or to take advantage of this win win situation at YUK YUKS just email us and we’ll make sure you get your DNA kit and or tickets. As well any donations would be can be made thru PayPal on the petfinder site http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/ON258.html

We know it isn’t easy to help others in these hard times so thank you in advance for your support.

Bestest

Su, Hank, Gizmo, ‘Stafa, Coal, Gracie, Nikos, Molsyn, & Lily, Cleo & Cloe the cats and all the rescues dogs (geez this closing line gets longer & longer as time goes by!)

Senior and Adult DOGS For Senior & Adult PEOPLE

Posted in Articles, Events, New Rescues, People who Donate to this Rescue on 01.07.09

Occasionally i get requests from people over 60 to have a dog. Most of those people have been refused dogs by other rescues for being ‘too old’.

When they come to me, I DO direct them away from puppies and younger dogs, my fear being not so much that they can’t handle them – there are some ‘old’ people waaaay fitter than ME! – but that they will die before the dog.

I have been directing older people to dogs over 5 yrs old (depending on breed/longevity) who need homes as badly, if not more cuz people want puppies, but are awesome dogs who have a long life to love someone .

I was thinking that ALL OF YOU have older relatives and friends who you didn’t know were looking for a dog and may have been refused and never told you OR want a dog but know a puppy is more than they need or want and don’t know about PETFINDER or that there are rescue organizations ther than pounds OR that they don’t have to go into a shelter and feel horrible seeing the dogs there but can go on the internet too. Maybe they don’t know that there ARE OLDER DOGS WHO NEED THEM. Middle ages or LAZY people like me should apply for these guys TOO!

Dogs i have here needing older people to love them if other people don’t want them is:

COCOA, an 8-9 yr old female chocoolate lab, med size – she can live another 5-7 yrs, BELLE, a7-8 yr old female blk lab mix, large, can go another 5-7 yrs, OCTAVIA, 9-11 yr old chihua/terrier mix, female, 10lbs who is the NICEST small dog i’ve ever seen!! never bites or even lifts a lip, not a barker, good on her legs and loving!! she can go another 8 or so years!  POLLY PUGGLES 10 -12yr old pug mix, female, one back leg is gimpy but getting stronger now that she’s using it – seems she may have been crated her whole life (she & Octavia likely puppy mill breeding dogs) and she really chugqs along outside!! She SINGS like a kitten when she needs attention and ok, she is UGLY but E.T. was cute after two hours so she;’ll grow on you! she can go another 5-8 yrs. RAY - still here – 9-10 yr old blk lab, male, blind from cataracts not cancer or diabetes. Awesome dog who gets around darn good for his ‘disability’. He can go 4-6 more years too!

We will help anyone adopting these dogs with health and food advice to make them last as long as they should too!

Other ‘older’ dogs who need people – Joey, Hoss, Claudia - they’re all apprx 4-5 yrs old and have a good 10 yrs left (13 or so for the beagle) and they are calmer and loving and easier to have around – don’t need exceptional amts of exercise either!!

THis is all just thoughts but i’d really like to know what you think and if there is a market for older dogs and people and where the best place it to let seniors know we’re here with great dogs.

HAPPY CANADA DAY EVERYONE!

Barkham In Markham

Posted in Events on 16.06.09

June 20th is Barkham Dog Festival in Markham.

Pug Angels, a support group for rescues (they are sponsoring Ray’s vetting) is going to be there and i am hoping some of you will go there and support THEM.  They go to various dog events and hold their own fundraisers so they can help the rescues who need a little financial boost to help the dogs in our care.

You’ll see their link on every page of this site and it’s our way of thanking them for helping Ray (our big blind black lab – how’s THAT for alliteration??)
